Varna Travel Directory

Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria and its largest coastal city. It's located on the northern coast of Bulgaria's Black Sea, just south of the resort area of Golden Sands. Varna is a charming city with some fantastic beaches located right in the city. In the summer it can seem like all of Bulgaria heads to Varna to enjoy its beautiful weather and the Black Sea. With restaurants, bars and carnival games, the waterfront promenade is the place to be and it is packed day and night with sun-seeking beachgoers and tourists.

Varna also has its fair share of historical attractions, including the Euxinograd Palace. This 19th century royal retreat now serves as a presidential retreat, but it is still open to tourists. There are many Orthodox churches and cathedrals in Varna and several museums, such as the archaeological museum. Some interesting architecture can be found in the city center, such as art nouveau mansions and other palatial houses.

The Sea Garden is the city's largest and most famous park. It's located right on the coast and it's the location of the Varna Aquarium, an open air theater, a planetarium, history museum and other attractions.

Varna's best shopping can be found along and around Prince Boris Boulevard. This long, pedestrian-only street is Varna's high street and it is always crowded with young people and shoppers who patronize its many boutique shops.

There is daily train service to Varna from Sofia, Plovdiv and Burgas. Alternatively there are frequent cross-country buses in Bulgaria and travel time from Sofia to the coast is relatively short.
